Hurrah for Marion

Guerrilla gardener Marion Temple, subject of several posts here, has been awarded a Redbridge gong for being a good egg. Congratulations to her.

The council’s citation for the “Making a Greener Redbridge” award was: “Marion is Wanstead’s very own guerrilla gardener! She sows cuttings and seeds from her own garden in planters all along Wanstead High Street. Marion gives her time freely to care to the planters and this really makes a difference to the high street, is good for morale and for local business too. Marion brings colour and life to other unloved spots within the neighbourhood. Marion is a committed member to several local green groups and societies as well as opening her own garden annually in aid of Amnesty International.”

  1. Hurrah indeed for Marion! The guerilla gardening idea is gradually taking root …. albeit slowly. Marion has to be up there at the top of the Guerilla Gardening tree, and great that she has achieved some recognition.

  2. Well done!! Well deserved. The corner garden especially, brings a smile to my face every time I walk by. Always something new to see. Thank you

  3. Well done Marion -The High Street and the Centre’s front garden brightens up my day on my way to work each morning even in the recent awful weather!

  4. Always good to see some recognition for this kind of wonderful contribution.

I fear though in this case that the Council giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other.

As I post, the Council’s weed spraying robots are being programmed with their 2014 Orders to kill any vegetation within 2 feet of a paving slab.

  5. I’m hoping that Marion is not planning to plant weeds or that the weed killers can differentiate between flowers and weeds.
Then it’ll be a win-win for both Wanstead and Redbridge!

  6. So glad Marian’s our special adviser for Seeds for Snaresbrook. Dog walkers, cyclists and bin bag humpers – respect the street trees! Bee on the lookout for lots of bee friendly flowers round the tree pits this summer.
