Someone at Wanstead Co-op is about to get a ticking off

  1. That’s a bit harsh. I pop in ‘our’ co-op virtually every day and I’ve never had a problem with the folk there. In fact, they are normally very accommodating of my barely-under-control toddlers that I have in tow!

  2. I use the Co-op if I have just 1 or 2 items to pick up quickly. Unfortunately, I agree with Yukett, they don’t really engage with, they stand there scanning your items gazing around as though you weren’t really there, which I find quite infuriating. Even when I thank them at the end, it’s though I’m speaking martian! I know it’s not the only supermarket with these issues, but the Co-op was mentioned. Must try harder.

  3. Frankly I find the staff very distant and unhelpful at the Coop. Would not bother with it if it wasn’t so handy.

  4. Yes, how dare these menial workers not bow and scrape to their middle class masters and betters! I shall visit this afternoon with riding crop in hand and give them all a damn good thrashing. They should know their place.

  5. I pop in occasionally but use the self service option so can’t comment on the staff behind the tills. However, whenever I have to ask for assistance to verify my age (which by the way is 60+) they are always cheerful and helpful.

  6. I’ve always found Wanstead Co-op staff really pleasant and helpful – no-one has ever been rude or standoffish with me.

  7. Hahaha! This place is cracking me up now.

Personally I send my butler out to do my menial tasks, I shall ask him what he thinks.

  8. Unfair statment. I disagree completely. Chaps and ladies at the co-op have always been really helpful .

  9. I’ve not had much interaction at that store as I usually use the self service but whenever I got through staffed tills at other stores, I know the job is boring, I don’t need small talk, but the thing that annoys me most is when you get absolutely no eye contact from the checkout staff, even as you hand out cash or card to pay , as if you didn’t exist or are invisible.

  10. Link Juan Stead
Nobody bought class into this, but you did! What does that say about you?? Clearly, someone who didn’t understand the original comment.

  11. I always find the staff at the Co Op in Wanstead lovely and helpful. Maybe just a bad day, however, if you feel this way maybe go in and speak to the manager much better idea than making it public on here after all it’s bad customer service nothing major

  13. Agreed, we all have bad days. But if I was discourteous/dismissive with a client at work, I could lose money for the company & ultimately be spoken to!! (Quite rightly). That’s all anybody is trying to say here, we should keep our own personal issues hidden when dealing with customers. Our problems are not the customers problems.

  14. I agree have always found the staff discourteous and treat me as if I’m invisible. I don’t expect anyone to “bow and scrape” just a simple hello, or even a bit of eye contact and some recognition when I say thank you. Just would like the basic manners I have shown reciprocated.

They have on occasion spoken to each other whilst serving me without even acknowledging I’m there. Whole transactions take place without a word being spoken to me. Only started using them again when the serlf service was put in. At least the machine speaks to me. It even says thank you!

  15. Dreadful shop, though I don’t blame the staff for their sullenness having to listen to “Radio Co-Op” all day. There must be some form of employment legislation to prevent this, surely? Only Heart FM would be a worst fate. It truly is a clueless organisation.

After reading the “class” comments on here, it’s not hard to see why two Labour councillors got elected in the ward this time. It appears the Prosecco Socialists have been moving in 🙂
