Wansteadium’s exclusive livetweeting of the area 1 committee of Redbridge Borough Council, which concerns Wanstead and Snaresbrook. We say exclusive, because we don’t think there were any reporters at the meeting (though we may be wrong about that). Tweets are in chronological order, more or less.
We’re live blogging the area 1 committee for Redbridge –
Wanstead Society asks if council backs their fundraising to but Evergreen Field, and if it would support compulsory purchase of it
Cllr Chris Cummins says yes to support, but Cllr T Chan says council can’t compulsorily purchase land
He says the council would need to be able to show why it hadn’t needed to buy it 20, 30 or 40 years ago. Attempt wd be challenged
Cllr Cummins says the council cannot insist the black plastic sheeting around Evergreen Field be removed
Nor is the land untidy for the council to insist on an enforcement order “but it has gone on too long”.
“You are up against a very determined owner,” says Cllr Cummins. Allegations of dumping of contaminated oil there will be investigated
Cllr Wilson says a petition is being collected for the land to be tidied

Officer Steve Grayler says TFL has no plans to introduce lights there but they are aware of the problem.
What ho! Three coppers have arrived!
Cllr Cummins says: “I see the police have arrived and sorry if we were a bit critical of you.”

Tacking mobile phone theft and uninsured drivers. One caught on Aldersbrook Rd, he says
Resident says a police evening contact point at Wanstead House left the officer drumming his fingers because no one came
Does everyone know where Wanstead House is, resident asks. And when do officers actually patrol?
There’s nothing on my ward that’s not being tackled, says Sgt Nicolaou. We’ve reduced crime here and solved big drug issue.
So what has reduced crime, asks resident. Searching and stopping and not tolerating people who shouldn’t be here, says Sgt.
Shouldn’t be here? What type of people shouldn’t be in Wanstead, is there a list, did we miss a memo? Where should they be?
Guilty conscience, ? Can we see your council tax bill please?

Cllr Mrs Nolan sas residents concerned that event elsewhere in borough could mean officers not available for Wanstead & Snaresbrook
But doing a good job, she says. The new model is good, says sgt, though there had been initial doubts . We’re stronger than we were
Nine police ward teams based at Woodford, sgt says, and they can be back up for each other when needed
Officers now distributing screws to the assembled residents. Lesser hyper local tweeters would use that as an excuse for a joke.
Police leave to a round of applause. Turns out they were anti-theft screws for numberplates.
