The Cherry Tree cafe on Woodbine Place is to close next month, it has been announced. The charity-run cafe, which has helped adults with learning difficulties get work, has reportedly run out of money, according to the Wanstead Guardian.  A Redbridge spokesperson told the paper they would look at future options for the site.

  1. Am very disappointed to hear about Cherry Tree. Have recently joined a bereavement group which meets every month in the cafe and have found it the perfect environment. Friendly, buzzing and a gentle reminder that life goes on. A model community initiative getting people together and improving life.

  2. Well let’s hope that while looking at future options for the site, Redbridge might also spare a thought for the adults with learning difficulties and their families who will no doubt be left feeling confused, abandoned and bewildered at the loss of a much-needed and much-loved community lifeline.

  3. Shame for all those in the community that relied on this as a bridge for employment. The staff were as good as anywhere. Personally, I’ll miss the lovely little garden out the back. It was a quiet and pretty sanctuary to enjoy tea on a sunny day.
