POSTPONED: Wanstead Book Festival presents Margaret Gee

September 12 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Please note this event has been postponed. Ticketholders will be given refunds. We hope to reschedule this event for the coming weeks.

When Ilford nurse Shirley Chapman’s mother died, Shirley was not sure what to do. However she felt called by God to go somewhere, and ended up in a remote village in the Amazon with no roads, no two-way radio and no communication of any kind. She met the Paumarí people, where she helped establish a way for their unwritten language to be written. Shirley is now 88 and living in Ilford again.

The story of her remarkable life has been written by author Margaret Gee who will be talking about Shirley’s life. Proceeds to Oxfam.
