Aldersbrook parades its new shops

Wansteadium reader Roger Estop writes:

Residents of the Aldersbrook Estate and visitors to Wanstead Flats can now enjoy a range of new shops and services in the formerly semi-derelict Courtney Parade. Over the past couple of weeks Lakeview Fish and Chips and Farm Fresh Fruit and Veg have been opened by Taranjeet Singh. This follows the opening of Moon’s Hair and Beauties hair salon a few months ago.

Last year, Money Saver Superstore, which offers food, household sundries, confectionery and newspapers opened up and the new off licence Wine Plus started the revival. These joined the longstanding Wanstead Cars taxi base, the Memorials showroom and the little florist shop.

It means the parade under the Courtney Hotel is now fully occupied for the first time in years. The task now is to win over the choosy punters of the Aldersbrook estate – the fish and chips are excellent!

Letter to Wansteadium: A real-life hustle

Dear Wansteadium
A warning for other readers.

Having been told that the window cleaner was waiting at the front door, I
assumed that the windows had been cleaned. The windows of the front and back of the house are cleaned alternately – so it depends where you are as to whether or not you actually see the window cleaners.

I opened the front door to pay. A young man stood there, pen and account book at the ready. Nothing unusual.

I handed him a £20 note, stating that I hadn’t anything smaller. He took this, said he hadn’t any change and that he would go and get some. Again
nothing unusual – the window cleaners often did that. (There’s usually quite
a gang of them busy up & down the road.)

It wasn’t until he failed to return that I realized I had been CONNED!

Yours,

A Wansteadium reader (name supplied)
