I’d love to know the history of it, as it looks rather at odds with the neighbouring buildings. Interestingly I think the house across the road has a well in the front garden.
May be evidence of a long lost Portmerion style folly in our beloved Wanstead, although I am reminded of a ‘for sale’ advert I saw for a house in Gants Hill, a few years back, which stated ; “Genuine Mock Tudor.”
For anyone interested in Grove Park history etc, I’ve found two sites:
British History On-Line http://www.british-history.ac.uk
Wanstead Park Conservation Area appraisal www2.redbridge.gov.uk
both of which mention Grove Park and associated buildings. Or just Google search Grove Park, Wanstead. The British History site is addictive and leads one on to read more and more about other places too. Just wish there were more old pics. Patti
A request for Geoff Wilkinson: would it be poss sometime to take a pic of the children’s swings/playground at Christchurch Green. My Grandmother used to take me there as a little girl back in the 1940’s. Thanks, Patti
I love find these odd bits of architecture and buildings in Wanstead, the original thinking was so creative. I am always searching for more ‘hidden’ gems even if it’s a small detail. Patti if you go to my website http://www.wansteaddailyphoto.blogspot.com I have today posted a photograph for you of the swings on Christchurch Green. I am sure the playground has changed a lot but I hope you enjoy the picture.
