Found among some random things in a disused Wanstead garage, this is a lump of Strippabloc, about the size of a bar of Imperial Leather, and apparently used for removing paint. Judging by the price label it’s pretty old, but does anyone know more about what exactly someone would do with it, whether it has any use now, or indeed any memories of the shop where it was bought?

Yes I remember Willis was on the High Street forget which shop is there now
I remember Willis’s. Always smelled of wood. Loved it in there when I was a kid.
Willis’s DIY shop was where the art shop is now, next to where Jolliffe’s shop was. This is my best estimate. He moved to Chigwell Road/Hermon Hill opposite George Lane corner shop which is now Jack’s DIY.
If that bar was found in an empty garage, it could have been used in a previous age to strip car paintwork when doing body repairs?
It was in Woodbine Place where the fabric shop is now.
Its now the art shop next to the Post Office
I was wrong – that was Andrews!
