May Music Festival
A four-day festival of music at St Mary’s church in Wanstead. Details of the programme below.
Friday 26th May at 7.30 pm
Sonare – acapella vocal quartet of young professional singers giving a springtime programme. They sing a wide range of composers from Baroque to present day and have had several successful tours since their inception. Their performances have been described as “magical and uplifting” and they will song songs by Mendelssohn, Stanford, Elgar and Sullivan, amongst others. Entry on the door is £15 and refreshments available
Saturday 27th May at 4.30 pm
A talk about the organ at St Mary’s given by Michael Blighton, the organ builder and tuner who looks after the organ. He will tell us something of the history of the organ – the present one is not the original instrument -.and he will answer questions from the floor.
Followed by a short break for tea then a recital on the organ given by organists who play in the Parish. There will be 7 organists playing and the varied programme should last about 90 minutes. Admission free and refreshments available
Sunday 28th May at 5.30 pm
A concert of instrumental music featuring local professional musicians Sue FitzGerald and Alison Wells, Jane Miller, Clive Miller and John Garner, and Jonny Fong and Jacqueline Li in a programme to include, Brahms, Poulenc, Rutter, Piazzolla and more.
Admission on the door £10 and refreshments available
Monday 29th May at 12.00pm
Ukulele workshop led by Martin Wheatley, with a picnic in the grounds. The workshop is for anyone from the age of 12 upwards and is free to attend, but it is essential to book a place by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We have ukuleles available to borrow for the workshop, which promises to be great fun, and you’ll learn three songs. If places are over subscribed, another workshop will follow at 1.30. So weather permitting, bring the whole family and a picnic and enjoy the lovely grounds at St Mary’s.
