Miss Julie
East London Theatre Company’s production of Miss Julie is returning to The Wanstead Curtain for just three performances over two days at the end of November. Seen by an audience of more than 200 people during a five-night run for the Wanstead Fringe Festival Sept 2024, this production of Miss Julie received wonderful audience reactions before transferring to The Courtyard Theatre, Hoxton for an eleven-night run in October.
While at the Courtyard, performances attracted impressive press reviews and ELTC are now returning to Wanstead to give an opportunity for those that missed out to see this intimate and captivating adaptation of August Strindberg’s brilliant play.

MISS JULIE
BY
August Strindberg
Miss Julie begins as a flirtatious game between the daughter of a landed Swedish aristocrat and Jean, her father’s, somewhat common, but well-travelled footman. Over the course of a long and sultry Midsummer’s Eve, the game plays out and gradually descends into a shifting battle for survival.
ELTC’s production respects both the potential for comedy, as well as tragedy, in Strindberg’s writing, as Jean attempts to build on his humble origins and improve his social standing, Miss Julie seeks solace from her dysfunctional upbringing by mixing with the servants.
Staged in the round, this energetic, intimate and subtly humorous production of Strindberg’s masterpiece engages and entertains audiences in equal measure.
