Tighter rules for the Nightingale

The Nightingale on the Green pub has been given new licence conditions following a review by Redbridge.

It means a tightening of rules for the pub, owned by Frank Lampard Sr, including reduced hours (until 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday), the use of security on the door on Friday and Saturday nights, use of CCTV and no music apart from background music. There is also to be a change in management structure.

The new conditions were agreed by the pub following an application by the borough’s Community Protection Task Force which included complaints about noise.

A spokesperson for Redbridge Council said: “We welcome the sub-committee’s decision, following an agreement reached between all parties, as it presents an opportunity to resolve the issues connected to the pub.

“It is hoped with the removal of the old management structure, and the additional conditions and restrictions to the pub’s licence, the Council will be able to work with the venue to ensure it operates within the law, and in harmony with the local community. We won’t tolerate businesses behaving badly in Redbridge, and if the pub fails to adhere to what was agreed, we will push for full licence revocation.”

Councillor Jo Blackman, a member of the sub committee, said: “The new licence conditions agreed with the Nightingale pub are much more appropriate for a residential area. I hope this will address residents’ concerns about noise and anti-social behaviour. Council officers will be monitoring the premise’s compliance with the new rules and I encourage residents to report any issues to the council so they can be followed up.”

  1. Remember when i think his name was Jock owned the pub his rules were obeyed i remember breaking bone I didn’t know the rules he came up to me and said you are breaking one box my rules a person sitting next to me told what it was i was wearing a t shirt not allowed bur in those days a great pub

  2. The previous landlord Noel McMahon never had these problems, seating outside onto the trestle tables in the sun was a lovely place to be.

If I bought a place near a pub I would expect a bit of nighttime/weekend noise. That little area with the shop and pub brings benefits to the local community too.

If only they could get the kitchen fired up again it would be even better, once food was consistently available it would skyrocket

  3. A few years ago l went to this pub for a meal with some friends. We couldn’t hear ourselves shout let alone speak because of the noise of the live band playing. This was just after the former landlord, Noel, had left. Used to love this pub when he ran it, especially the Irish music nights. Have never been back. I pity the neighbours with all that noise.

  4. Go to the Noghtingale whenever I visit Wanstead (5/6 times a year) . Friendly and well run with occasional music on a weekend. Frequented by lots of locals/regulars and never seen any issues that require security.. Hopefully these new rules don’t impact the pub as too many local pubs have disappeared over recent years and this is a gem that needs to be retained.

  5. A well run local community pub, never any trouble there, seems to be a victim of new locals buying a house nearby and complaining about a pub that’s been there since the mid 1850s
