A structural survey taking place on the George Lane viaduct? What could go wrong… except that it was built in 1947. And that the Broadmead Road bridge in Woodford was built in 1937. Anyway, it’s probably nothing. Sufficient unto the day, as they say.

(H/T Caroline – thank you!)

FRIDAY 17TH? I would be more encouraged if they could get a date that exists !
The 17 November is a Monday, not a Friday.
I’m not sure I’d consider checking the safety of a structure that can carry over a hundred people over 500 people beneath it with the real risk of death as “bad”??
It heeds to be safe for the road users and tube passengers. Boohoo if some people are inconvenienced whilst it’s taking place.
Point missed, somewhat. It’s the possibility that the survey might find similar structural faults as the Broadmead Road bridge causing it to be closed for several years which is bad. Thought that was clear.
But surely finding structural faults that may be present before the bridge fails is great news? Structural faults would mean a high risk of failure resulting in substantial damage with the high possibility of injury or death. Surely we should celebrate if they are discovered and remedied before catastrophe. The bridge being shut would cause some very inconvenient delays but that is far better than the alternative.
Obvs. Let’s just hope there are no structural faults.
