The voice of the people

At last week’s Area 1 committee of Redbridge Council – the bit which deals with very local issues for Wanstead and Snaresbrook – it seemed that there were almost as many coppers present as there were residents.

Well, not quite, perhaps. There were seven officers, six councillors, and 20 residents. Ok, there weren’t very many controversial issues on the agenda, but it didn’t seem like very many people. So, Wansteadium mused, which area of Redbridge is the most politicised? After a bit of data crunching (and thanks to the work of the DataShare team at Redbridge), we are proud to reveal the following…

So from that we can conclude that most area meetings get fewer than 50 people turning up, though nearly all areas have occasional larger turnouts – probably when there are issues of controversy. The people of Wanstead and Snaresbrook are either more afflicted with controversy, or are more prepared to get stuck in.

Swift paint job

This is pretty impressive. At Monday night’s Area1 Committee, during a discussion about parking, a point was made from a resident that the disabled parking bays outside the Co-op on Wanstead High Streeet were very faint. The council officer present said he would report back and get it fixed.

Hey presto, on Wednesday morning, council workers arrived and painted the lines in. Eyewitness, and Wansteadium reader Tina, reported: “Disabled paint job road marking outside Co op done in seconds and freehand. Amazing!”IMAG1620 IMAG1619

Tamara Ecclestone’s boyfriend and Wanstead garage

Concentrating readers will remember last year that Tamara Ecclestone’s boyfriend, Jay Rutland, was robbed after driving his Ferrari down the A12, pulling off at the Green Man and getting petrol at the Jet garage on New Wanstead.

He was mugged by two men as he took a leak, and lost a £50,000 Rolex and a £20,000 bracelet. He did, however, get the mobile phone from one of his attackers.

Anyway, it’s reported in Tuesday’s newspapers – most detail here in the Daily Mail – that the CPS has decided to drop a prosecution because of insufficient evidence.
