Wanstead voters have 0.11 votes (kind of)
Social media guru – and Wanstead resident – Nic Newman tweets: The average UK voter has 2.33x more voting power than I do in Leyton & Wanstead – says Voter Power .. http://bit.ly/cViBKN. Time to move…
The figure is calculated by Voterpower.org to demonstrate that in safe seats like Leyton and Wanstead, it’s much harder for voters to have an effect on the result than it is in marginal constituencies. Their case is explained here.
Wanstead’s new mystery flag
The mystery of Wanstead’s random flag appearances has returned, with a St George’s Cross appearing atop a tree on the Green, Wanstead. First spotted by Wanstead tweeter @Gradiate, who posted the following picture and comment:
Someone has placed a St Georges cross up an ancient tree near my house – looks beautiful in the sun.
Also later reported by the Wanstead Guardian, here, which adds the back story of the spate of mystery flags on Wanstead golf course last year.
Wanstead’s Nightingale Green replanted – before and after pictures
The Wanstead Society’s appeal for volunteers to help replant Nightingale Green seems to have been a success – more than 40 people attended on Saturday. Below is evidence of their work.
Room service arrives in Wanstead
The Wanstead Village Directory April edition is out with the shock news that Belgique – the fancy cafe on Cambridge Park – is now offering breakfast delivered to your door on Saturdays or Sundays.
Prices aren’t too bad either. There’s a minimum spend of £7.50, and you can order either a la carte, or from set menus, which range from £9.95 to £99. The latter includes the Sunday Times and a dozen red roses. It’s not clear from the website (or the small print) how much the charge for delivery is, but apart from that, the only downside is that it’s only available until 11am.
