Well done to the Duke which has received the above write-up in this week’s Short List magazine. It’s come a long way…

Announcing the 2016 Wanstead Fringe
Mark your diaries now… the 2016 Wanstead Fringe will be taking place between Saturday 10 and Saturday 17 September, with the Wanstead Festival happening on Sunday the 18th.
It will be the fourth Wanstead Fringe and will be more ambitious than ever. There will be some familiar favourite events – open-air Kinema for one – and some surprises too.
But as in previous years, the 2016 Fringe will rely on Wanstead people to organise events themselves.  If there is something you’ve always wanted to see happen – an exhibition, a talk, a demonstration, a workshop, a play – or if you are a musician who wants to perform, then this is your opportunity.
At the moment we’re particularly keen to hear from the theatrically-minded, and from anyone who would like to help run a big book event. Contact us at info@wansteadfringe.org
You can sign up for e-mail updates from the Fringe via its own site which is here – wansteadfringe.org – and Wansteadium too will keep you up to date with how things are progressing. And there’s always the Wanstead Fringe on Facebook  and on Twitter too.
A fox, a duck and some terrapins

Moved by the photograph of the fox in the cemetery which we published on Monday, Jenny Schenck offers us these two shots of what could have been the same animal, also taken at St Mary’s.
“I saw the picture of the dead fox on your website, it’s really sad to see. I would go by that cemetery occasionally and take a pic of the fox there. Here are a couple of photos of a fox I seen there. I’m not sure if it’s the same one or not,” she writes.

Meanwhile Susan Matthews took this photo at Eagle Pond. She writes: “I’ve asked the RSPB if it’s possibly due to getting caught up in the pond weed, but no response as yet.”

But before we get too morose, Sue (a different person) took this photo, also at Eagle Pond. It’s rather charming.

Wanstead weekly photo
This week, a bluebell-free zone. And instead a study on mortality, as taken by Wansteadium reader Giles. You can send your pictures for inclusion to info@wansteadium.com.  Next week we’ll conclude the Pro-Am Bluebell Photo challenge – make sure you stick to the paths if taking pictures in Wanstead Park.
Thank you, just for the record

Bike breakthrough
Wansteadium reader Allen Chan writes:Hello Wansteadium,
Let’s take a leaf out of Waltham Forest’s book. They are so forward thinking and community led. For example they have put a Brompton bike hire unit next to the station in Leytonstone. And all for £2.50 a day. Is there any chance that Redbridge would do the same?…
Come on Redbridge ride on with your community or get on your bike!”
