Wanstead on the Tube map, 1000 years ago

The Londonist website, which has made it its mission to compile and collate alternative maps of London, has done a nice job making a medieval Tube map, using the names of places from roughly 1,000 years ago. The above is our section of the Central Line.
The map in full can be seen at the Londonist here.
Reviews of Luppolo welcome, plus farewell Dai Viet
Wanstead’s newest pub/bar/pizza place Luppolo has now been in business for a couple of weeks, so it’s time for our customary invitation for customers to submit their reviews, whether about food, drinks or ambience. You can do so using the comments form below.
Plus it’s sad to note the following Facebook post, below, from Dai Viet, the Vietnamese restaurant between the former snooker club (and Kinema) and the George.

Wanstead weekend photo, CIX

Geoff Wilkinson writes on Wanstead Daily Photo: “Gotta love Christmas lights, they make me feel so warm and festive. I took this picture Monday night on my way home from the Woodford and Wanstead Camera Club where I had judged their annual projected photograph competition. I just had to stop outside this house and take a picture, I think the contrast in colour between the lights in the garden and the warmth of the ones on tree inside is great.”
A piece of Wanstead

Here’s an original present for Christmas – a true Wanstead-based jigsaw. Produced by local resident Jill Stock, the jigsaw is available in a number of formats (and complexities). You can also buy the image as a poster. Prices are as follows:
Jigsaws
500 or 200 piece jigsaws (51x41cm) £15
Posters
A1 £50 to order (not mounted)
A2 £40
A3 £20
Orders can be made directly to jillstock@gmail.com, and they will be available for collection. (The jigsaws and posters don’t have the writing on them…)
Announcing a new Wanstead hunt… carol singers
Regular readers will have no need to be reminded of our annual hunt for hedgehogs in Wanstead. It’s time for a winter equivalent: old-fashioned carol singers doing their thing, house-to-house, possibly gathered under a lantern. Does that still happen? If you witness it or take part, please let us know using the email address hedgehogs@wansteadium.com, stating clearly which carols were sung. Thank you.
