Big day for Wanstead rugby
Saturday sees what is the biggest day in Eton Manor rugby club’s history when they take on Colchester to determine who wins the London North 1 league and also who gets promoted into National League 3 SE (the highest regional rugby union league in south-east England). Wansteadium reader Werner Hefer said: “Promotion will be a remarkable achievement for the club and a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents during a very demanding season next year.” The game starts at 3pm at the club in Nutter Lane and any local support will be welcome.
Voyage over for DanÂ
Sorry to report that Cafe Voyage Dan, the cheery presence at Snaresbrook Station, is moving on. At some point in the next few days he will be shutting up shop for the last time. New owners are lined up though so all being well the shop will carry on trading. Bon voyage Dan.
Lost property alert
People people, someone really needs to take more care of their belongings. Just a few weeks after someone mislaid a fridge by Forest School, now someone’s lost two mattresses, half a dozen bags of rubbish and a broken hula hop on Nelson Road. If they are yours, you can reclaim them safely.
UPDATE Thursday 2100: The property appears to have been claimed. Well done to its original owners (or more likely the Redbridge Anti Fly-tipping team).
Filmed on location in Wanstead, again
Just over a year after Wanstead Barbers appeared in a Coral TV advert, it’s now the turn of the Laundrette. It’s a brief glimpse in this Highland Spring advert which was shown first on Monday.
The same laundrette, incidentally, which last appeared on these pages when smoke was seen billowing from inside. The filming does at least explain the new transfers on the window, which were hitherto an unexplained decor detail.
(Update Tuesday pm: The video has for some reason been removed from YouTube. We’ll hunt for a copy.)
Thanks to @loveloughton, @Beabe40 and Basi Adigun.
