Recent publicity:
Back in July 2017, a reporter and photographer from the TSB Local Pride campaign came to our monthly Corner House working party. Lights, camera, action! See and read the end result here: http://www2.tsb.co.uk/local-pride/inspiring-people/2017/june/street-gardening-brings-flower-power-to-life/
Hello from Wanstead Community Gardeners!
We’re a community group, open to all people of any skill level, who are interested in transforming Wanstead’s neglected public spaces.
We’re a good mix of Wanstead people: 9-5 workers, families with children and retired people and we all play our part in creating little patchwork gardens in each neglected space.
Some of us are gardeners, some have the oomph to get rid of unwelcome sycamores, shift heavy sacks, fix up trellis and do all the extra stuff needed when creating living gardens, while some know little but just want to be involved.
Our projects and spaces (click links for photos and more information):
- Corner House Garden
- Most of the High Street flower beds
- Nine patches in the shrub planting around Wanstead Station
- Wanstead Station Car Park bed
- Wanstead Station herb tanks
- Fountain beds round the old Victorian Drinking Fountain (Corner of the Green)
- Wanstead Place – Doctor’s Surgery and Christ Church grass verge
- Nightingale Green
- Snaresbrook Station Wall Garden
- Snaresbrook Station ‘turn in the stair’
- Library Tree Pit
- Co-op Tree Pit
- Grove Park Linear Bed
- Cherry Pye Bed – near The George

How do we do it?
We have fun! We run on enthusiasm, dig and delvery and a good amount of plant knowledge. We have no formal funding or grants and we tend to use plants from our own gardens and allotments. We are grateful to others who donate plants and to Daisy the High Street flower shop and Co-op who give us their walking wounded. We plant them and they dance.
We happily accept donations of time, funding and plants.
Would you like to join in on the fun?
Wanstead Community Gardeners is a great way to get to know new people and to have a positive impact on the community.
