This is becoming a more common sight in Wanstead than the W12. As a means of communication it might look blunt, but at least it’s hard for its target market (those who aren’t at home) to ignore.
And of course no one should underestimate just how powerful slogans written on the side of buses can be.
Wanstead author Joseph Elliott is celebrating the publication of his second novel, the sequel to The Good Hawk which was published last year to great critical acclaim (including being called ‘thrilling’ by the New York Times and being nominated for the Carnegie medal).
The Broken Raven is the second part of an epic fantasy trilogy which has been compared to Game of Thrones and which has a protagonist with Down’s Syndrome. It’s pitched at young teenagers.
Joseph has lived in Wanstead for the past four years, and is well known to a generation of children through his acting and writing for comedy and children’s television. He is best known for playing pirate Cook in the CBeebies series Swashbuckle.
Congratulations to Joseph – and fingers crossed that if there is a Wanstead Fringe this year, it will be possible to arrange an event with him.

Kebabs are, as ever, a matter of taste. To be brutally honest, the new signage at the Wanstead Kebab House is a little too spicy for Wansteadium’s tastes. But then Wansteadium is rarely content where shop signs are concerned, as everyone knows.
Wansteadium has been privately celebrating its 10th anniversary – not really believing that an idle idea which started in the days when Gordon Brown was prime minister is STILL GOING.
So we thought that it might be interesting to look at the most read posts over our entire history. It’s sad not to see anything about hedgehogs in there, obviously, but otherwise it’s a real stroll down memory lane.

Very welcome news for Wanstead, coming a couple of days after this:
The government has confirmed that Redbridge is in London after a surprise announcement which excluded it, along with a random selection of other boroughs, from areas where primary schools would remain closed for the start of term.
The position was clarified later in the course of Wednesday following the announcements in the House of Commons. Redbridge council leader Jas Athwal confirmed that Redbridge primary schools would remain closed next week.
NEW: Redbridge *is* added to the list. Primary schools will not re-open to all pupils on Monday.
